Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
