A extended cruise circling Australia has been cancelled in the wake of the death of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the excursion for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the crew discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and crew on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its arrival.

Sequence of Events

The vessel first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the senior passenger's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the voyage.

Travelers on board - who typically pay large sums of currency to participate in the voyage - were ferried there for a day trip with the choice of trekking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The offspring of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and distressed that the liner left Lizard Island after an scheduled outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a hiking club.

"According to scant details we have been provided, it appears that there was a lapse of attention and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mum's being".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a very hot day, and mum took sick on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"She was asked her to return, alone. Then the boat departed, seemingly without doing a passenger count.

"At some stage in that process, or shortly after, she succumbed, alone."

Company Position

In a statement, the Head affirmed that the company was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their investigation".

He said that the firm was "very regretful that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Standards

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty passengers with 46 crew, according to official information. It was specifically designed to reach distant regions of the Australian coast and is equipped with "small boats" - small boats used to ferry individuals on day excursions.

Incidents such as this are infrequent, and cruise ships have protocols to track which individuals are boarding or leaving, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship really isn't an option," an authority stated.

Cruise lines take these procedures extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such occurrences from happening," the authority continued.

"This is presumably a stunning - and tragic - isolated incident."
