The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's opener, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to check the goal on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in duties at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the face of goal for an free the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just a single goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary evening on Merseyside.

The striker's form was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Tottenham box.
